Rapid Postoperative Recovery Achieved with MoyoAssist® in High-Risk Cardiac Surgery

The Cardiothoracic Surgery team at Huai'an First People's Hospital recently successfully completed a high-risk surgery assisted by MoyoAssist®. The device provided effective circulatory support throughout the procedure, demonstrating the clinical value of short- to medium-term ventricular assist therapy in managing complex cases.

Patient Profile

Age: 59

Gender: Male

Medical History: Chest tightness and shortness of breath for over 3 years, worsened over the past 10 days

Key Findings:

  • Severe aortic valve insufficiency with significant regurgitation

  • Mild mitral and tricuspid regurgitation

  • Left ventricular end-diastolic diameter of 79 mm

  • Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of 48%

  • Heart failure classified as NYHA IV

Surgical Procedure

Date of Surgery: March 26, 2025

Surgical Approach: Minimally invasive partial upper incision aortic valve replacement, performed successfully.

Perioperative Support: MoyoAssist® used for circulatory support.

Cannulation Procedure

  • A 21F venous catheter was inserted into the left atrium via femoral vein puncture under direct surgical visualization.

  • An artificial graft was used to anastomose with the axillary artery for arterial perfusion.

  • The extracorporeal ventricular assist device was connected, with an initial flow setting of 1.73 L/min and a rotation speed of 2401 RPM.

Device Operation

  • The device ran stably, and real-time hemodynamic parameters were monitored to ensure circulatory stability.

  • During the surgery, the patient's vital signs remained stable, with no significant complications.

Postoperative Management

  • Postoperative ultrasound showed significant reduction in left ventricular size, with end-diastolic diameter decreased to 64 mm, and the artificial valve was functioning well.

  • The patient's heart function improved significantly, classified as NYHA I.

  • MoyoAssist® was used for 5 days post-surgery, with an average support flow of 1.8 L/min.

Postoperative Outcome

  • The patient's recovery was rapid, with heart function gradually improving and successful weaning from the device earlier than expected.

  • The use of MoyoAssist® effectively reduced left ventricular load, providing crucial support for postoperative heart function recovery.
