Good News | magAssist Invention Patent Receives Jiangsu Patent Gold Award

Recently, the Jiangsu Provincial Government announced the winners of the 2nd Jiangsu Patent Awards. magAssist (Suzhou) Co., Ltd.'s invention patent, "Magnetically Levitated Motor and Magnetically Levitated Blood Pump" (Patent No. ZL202011182801.6), received the Jiangsu Patent Gold Award.

A total of 10 patents received the Jiangsu Patent Gold Award this year, with two companies from Suzhou among the recipients.

Established by the Jiangsu Provincial Government, the Jiangsu Patent Awards represent the highest-level recognition in the field of intellectual property in the province. The awards aim to encourage innovation and recognize outstanding patented technologies and innovators that contribute significantly to economic and social development.

magAssist's receipt of the Jiangsu Patent Gold Award represents strong recognition of the technological value and innovation behind the patent.

——Award-Winning Patent——

Core Enabling Technology for a Fully Magnetically Levitated Extracorporeal VAD

The award-winning invention patent, "Magnetically Levitated Motor and Magnetically Levitated Blood Pump," represents a core enabling technology for the fully magnetically levitated extracorporeal ventricular assist device.

The key innovation of this patent is the use of a single set of coils to achieve both levitation and rotation through time-sharing control. This approach significantly reduces the overall size of the device and enables a more compact design, while achieving strong hemolysis performance.

The technology addresses a common challenge in artificial heart development: balancing compact device design with hemocompatibility.

——Three Dimensions of Value——

Technological, Legal, and Commercial Value

As a representative high-value patent, the value of this technology is reflected across three dimensions: technology, legal protection, and commercial application.

Global patent portfolio:

magAssist has filed related patent families in China, the United States, Europe, and other key markets, while also developing a broader portfolio of surrounding patents based on the core technology to establish a comprehensive intellectual property protection network.

Legal robustness:

The patent has undergone a full range of challenges, including patent invalidation proceedings and administrative litigation at both the first and second-instance levels initiated by overseas industry players. The patent rights were ultimately upheld, demonstrating the robustness of the patent claims and the originality of the underlying technical solution.

Asset value:

Five core patents, including this award-winning patent, have been used as collateral in financing transactions totaling tens of millions of RMB, demonstrating the transformation of intellectual property from technological assets into financial value.

——Application and Translation——

From Patent Technology to Clinical Application

MoyoAssist®, the fully magnetically levitated extracorporeal ventricular assist device developed based on this core technology, received marketing approval in April 2024, addressing an unmet clinical need in China. In February 2025, its indications were further expanded to support either ventricular or cardiopulmonary function.

To date, MoyoAssist® has been deployed in more than 50 tertiary hospitals across China, covering clinical settings including cardiac surgery, cardiology, and intensive care. It has supported hundreds of critically ill patients with severe heart failure.

The product's consumables have also been included in the medical reimbursement catalogs of 17 provinces and municipalities across China. In Jiangsu Province, where they were included in the reimbursement catalog in 2024, the maximum reimbursement rate reaches 97%.

These achievements demonstrate the complete journey of an innovative patent—from the laboratory to clinical practice, and from technological innovation to industrial and social value.

A Gold Award-winning patent is recognition of our long-term commitment to original technological innovation. From breakthroughs in core technologies and global patent development to addressing patent disputes and realizing the value of intellectual property assets, we have remained focused on one goal: keeping core technologies under our own control and establishing a strong foundation in the global life-support field.

Our original aspiration is to make these technologies available to more patients. Building on this recognition, magAssist will continue to advance innovation in the field of multi-organ life support, strengthen the development and commercialization of high-value patents, and continue improving both our products and core technologies. We aim to support the broader adoption of innovative medical devices developed in China and compete more sustainably in the global market.
