BME2025 Mechanical Circulatory Support Forum: Advancing the Future of Cardiovascular Innovation

The 2025 China Biomedical Engineering Conference and Innovative Medical Summit (BME2025), held in Suzhou from June 21–23, gathered leading clinicians, researchers, and industry experts to discuss breakthroughs in mechanical circulatory support (MCS) technologies.

At the Mechanical Circulatory Support Forum, Academician Shengshou Hu at Fuwai Hospital, Chairman of the BME2025 Committee emphasized that mechanical circulatory assist devices are becoming a key focus in the field, offering new treatment options for patients with advanced cardiovascular conditions.

Representing magAssist, Dr. Chia-Hao Hsu presented the development progress of NyokAssist®, a percutaneous MCS device co-developed by magAssist and the cardiovascular team led by Academician Junbo Ge at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, through a close integration of clinical insight and engineering expertise.

Key Features of NyokAssist®:

  • Minimally Invasive Access: 9Fr insertion size (expandable to 21Fr intraoperatively), enabling average flow >3.5 L/min and peak flow >5 L/min

  • Valve-Compatible Design: Flexible outflow segment to preserve aortic valve function

  • CFD-Optimized Pump Geometry: Designed to enhance hydraulic efficiency and blood compatibility

  • External Motor Configuration: Reduces hemolysis and lowers disposable costs

Animal studies demonstrated intuitive handling, smooth navigation, and strong performance in terms of hemocompatibility and organ protection. The device effectively improved circulatory function by increasing mean arterial pressure (MAP), decreasing left ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDV), and reducing myocardial workload. Preliminary clinical data further support its safety and effectiveness during high-risk PCI procedures.
